The link isn’t working. Was it available for one day?

  • Austin Castle says:

Hey Mark….I git this email and dont know if it was just a mass email or what but I didnt leave any negative feedback or make any remarks . I think you are a responsible reefer and contribute allot to the hobby and you have nothing to apoligize for and if you offended anyone thats just tuff on their part…some people have nothing better to do then sit on their butt and complain all the time or want something for nothing and I have found after twenty years of being in this hobby is that when it comes to saltwater reef there are so many opinions out there that you can pull your hair out trying to figure out which one is right…lol..all I know is that I have wached you videos and read your comments and spoken to you and when I need help or have a situation you have helped me everytime so if there is anyone giving you a hard time just use the get the hell out of my life button and delete them because you dont need those headaches. Keep up the hard work and dedication man.

  • Richard says:

Hmmm, don’t know what you are apologizing for. It better not be for all those “its not right that you charge for guides” idiots. Keep on doing what you do Mark! Reef on!

  • Matthew Tibbits says:

I honestly didn’t see the problem with the algae chapter. Was it a plug? Yes. Who cares? If you don’t want his guide, don’t buy it. I’m a poor grad student and the thought of someone selling me something after all the nice free tips (that I don’t always follow) doesn’t upset me at all. If all his videos were plugs, I’d probably stop coming, but once a quarter? Who cares. Pretty sure I’ve wasted way more time on youtube ads.

  • jeff howard says:

well, i for one understand that this is a means to an end for you. supporting the sites that give you the help you need is important. unfortunately, not all understand that. it would be nice if you handed out your experience for free, but i also know that this site costs money, as does producing your shows. i am fighting what i now know is bryopsis, and i now know how to fight it. for me it was well worth the money, and helps keep your shows coming.

  • Tabby Figgins says:

i think your videos and advice are great, you have nothing to apologise for ! keep making your videos they are so helpful and the friday morning quick tips are really handy 🙂

  • Nick says:

Keep up the great work, love your stuff. If people don’t want to pay for something then let them move on. I wouldn’t apologize for anything. You apologize when you do something wrong, I sure do not see anything wrong here !!
    Nick………..

  • Matt Koen says:

Hey Mark. Not sure what the apology was for. All I can say is I wished I found all your videos and tank personality a long time ago. I love all the videos and have learned a lot. Hope you have a blessed day!!! 🙂

  • Jerry says:

    Hey Mark,

I don’t know what you are apologizing for but you don’t owe me one. Keep on doing what you do. Have a good one

  • Michael says:

Mark, like the comment Jerry left, you don’t owe anyone an apology. Frankly, I think you do an awesome job providing objective information. So what if you offer something for sale. You too have the right to make money for the great service you provide to your fellow hobbyist. I feel bad that some comments were excessive and over the top. Keep of the great work!

  • krys says:

i am not sure what the appology is for either, but thanks for all you do. thanks to you i had the confidence to dive into a 150 gal. reef and its doing great. and i was able to avoid pricey items the lfs tried to sell me.

  • BarnacleJack says:

    Mark,

You’ve got nothing to apologize for, but I do have to give you kudos for the way you handled the situation. You’ve shown yourself to be an honorable, stand up guy as well as a wise businessman. I purchased the guide and watched the videos, all very well done with loads of great info! I will definitely buy your guides in the future. Keep up the excellent work!!!

  • dicky says:

hei mark.. i don’t get what your apologizing for.. i’m sure those who don’t like your show and those who dose is 1:1000, so don’t sweat is man… i’m sure the ones who wrote you the hate mails are people who has nothing better to do than send hate mails.. and just because you charge money for your guide, don’t mean your a bad person.. your information is worth a lot more than your charging for your guide.. so don’t feel bad about it.. that’s your hard work, making mistake’s in salt water tank so we don’t have to.. just keep doing what your doing.. there’s always going to be haters, no matter how good of a person you are… WE GOT YOUR BACK MARK.. cheers from Indonesia…..

  • keith says:

You do a awesome job. I really enjoy all your tips and videos. Keep up the great work.

  • Kayos says:

All I know is that my tank would be nowhere near how beautiful it is now without your help. Thanks so much. As far as the negative remarks from entitled people, I completely understand. I am a school teacher for a residential behavior management facility, I doubt there is much difference between the people we are dealing with. Take care.

  • Non-Rookie says:

Notice all the people who gives a thumbs up to this guy are rookies. He’s only in it to make money off the rookie reefers, rather than provide knowledge for the good of the hobby. There’s plenty of free info out on the web!

  • Jeanette B says:

@Non-Rookie… so why are you even here? Perhaps you should leave and create your own site and then spend hours and hours each week filling it with nothing but free content, free advice and free videos… Some folks might even get fairly cantankerous towards someone making a comment like yours and say something along the lines of “Please don’t let the tool bar hit you in the keyboard as you exit Mr. Saltwater Tank’s site!” but I have far too much common courtesy and refined etiquette to ever say such a thing, even to someone as clearly out of touch as you.

  • Mark H. says:

I think we are forgetting why Mark created this site, to share information and if he chooses to charge for it, that is his own business, go elsewhere.

Please quit the bitching and moaning and go clean your sump or something…. Like mom always said, if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything.

I have been in this hobby for 30+ years and still find the hints helpful and know that the guides would have saved me a ton of money back them.

Keep up the good work Mark and let’s see the big tank. 🙂

  • Non-Rookie says:

I’m so smart I know everything there is to know about reef tanks. I even know how to search for stuff on the web and leave worthless comments on a rookie site that is totally beneath me.
I think only rookies are interested in Marks show, even though there are heaps of positive comments, from reefers that have most likely been in the hobby longer than me.
    Man I’m good.

PS. to the real Non-Rookie, your post was a classic rookie mistake.

  • Earl T says:

I’ve got an idea, either buy the book or don’t buy it. It’s as simple as watch Marks videos or don’t watch Marks video. If you like them, keep watching, if you don’t, unsubscribe.

  • dicky says:

agree with Earl, and Mark H’s mom ^^

  • Christine says:

Mark, Your an awesome guy, thanks for making the show, in fact you need to make more of the depth episodes. People want more!

  • Kevin says:

Sure marks videos have been gearing toward rookies lately, but that’s who the guides are really there for. Some information is really priceless and marks guide pays for itself if it helps a newbie save a $37 dollar frag, plus helps clear up some confusion that the info that some of the members on the boards give. Mark hope you can post a few videos for us reef junkies soon. It doesn’t matter if your a rookie or not, we’re all reefers guys and gals. Don’t like seeing all the negative comments. Cheers

  • kevin says:

You can’t make everyone happy. Sounds like the people who wrote you hate mail want something for nothing. Don’t apologizing for marketing your experience and leg work you’ve done to become a successful reefer. I can’t even describe how much your videos have helped me go from a 55 gal tank that looked like a sump to my new 125 that have people picking up their jaws off the ground. Keep up the good work.

  • Matthew says:

    To: Non-Rookie

Clearly you have not watched Marks 50+ other videos that have had the sole purpose of providing free information to reef enthusiasts. There is absolutely nothing forcing you to subscribe to anything on this site. Mark should try to make some money off this site, he works his ass off keeping these videos coming out. If you are going to complain about one 30 second advertising clip out of all his other shows, you’re going to have a rude awakening when you turn on ANY TV channel or click on ANY other site. But Non-Rookie your right, the Internet is filled with reef info, anyone can write anything so you know you are getting the best info!

  • Beetle Bailey says:

Dude ,I’m like all the others , what is the apology for ?, no really whats it for ,obviously there are some retards out there that have tanks aswell ,no hobby is perfect , so just ignor those losers that want the world for nothing and can’t think for them self and keep doing what your doing and I hope you make a million bucks while your at it
regards Beetle from down under !

  • Byron says:

Mark, you have never offended me in any way what so ever. I only have to gain from what you share. If I don’t like it or agree with you on some areas, thats ok too, but I’ve never been offended by anything you’ve ever said, that’d be ridiculous! Thank for all you’re doing to help me with my reef!

  • Kevin says:

    Mark,

Sounding like a broken record here, but you have nothing to apologize for. Your apology, while completely unnecessary, was sincere and shows your moral makeup. You care. …Even for the people who apparently don’t appreciate what you do for the hobby and quite likely don’t acknowledge what you have done for them personally. After all, they didn’t subscribe to your videos because they felt they were a waste of time, but instead they subscribed because they found them informative.

Keep doing what you’re doing. I’ve been in this hobby for decades and I still learn great things from your videos. Anyone who thinks they know everything there is to know about reefkeeping is uninformed. There are always new things to learn – period.

There’s nothing wrong with receiving a little compensation for your hard work. And clearly you share so much advice and experience without expectation of monetary benefit. So please don’t compromise your integrity by bending over backwards to appease those who believe everything in life should be given to them for free. In my experience, they often try to capitalize on what you’ve graciously shared with them anyway.

    Keep up the excellent work!

  • Mario says:

WAO!!!this is my first time that I see people so angry with no reason, on my part is ok, good work and I know how dificult is all this so in my case thanks! Allways people will be angry, but more will be satisfied!!!

  • F. says:

Wow, I actually found your infomercial very useful and was planning to buy it (just though a bit expensive). People watch TV all they when they get 50% advertising in their face and don`t complain. You come here, work your ass off for years, give your 1st guide for free, then just make one 4min infomercial that is actually USEFUL and haters complain – go figure!

Keep up the good work man and don`t listen to this losers. Your advices are good and congrats for the good work.

PS: I cleaned my stuff with Vinegar and my pumps became incredible noisy, after that I saw the video suggesting a specific product instead of vinegar, arg age 🙂

  • Eric says:

Glad you listened to your viewers. I’m not incredibly offended but I think the customer is always right.

Just read the whole algae guide and wasn’t very impressed at all. I’m pretty confident I could’ve found everything you said that I didn’t already know through my favorite forum. The part about organic phosphates was interesting but all the solutions you gave I would consider common knowledge. I knew I was treating a phosphate problem just didn’t know which type of phosphate it was. For $37 I would’ve def wanted a refund.

However, I would consider my self a reef junkie in the way of information (i may not have everything you reccomend but I know all the methods) so the information I read was old. Perhaps if you told people that this was a great guide for beginner to moderate reefers then I wouldn’t have cared one bit.

The use of “may” when discussing the phosphates we can test threw me off too. Just made me read the rest of the guide as if you were another hobbyist that had an opinion. I know you consulted with a proffesional but I found the guide to look very hobbyist-written. No statistics or study examples I would expect to find in a $40 book.

I do love watching and learning from your videos though! You lay everything out in an less confusing format than a forum and give me an extra opinion on the item/theory you’re reviewing. I must admit the ads are getting old though. Might want to dial back on those.

  • Danny says:

Mark there are alot of idiots out there that just want to hate
On people who actually know what they are talking about. Your show is great, been doin this for 10 years now alot of what u have to say is accurate, smart and you do it for free man. Your a good man keep up the great work.

  • Bob says:

    Hi Mark,

I just wana say, keep up the good work. I learned a lot and save lots of money buy just paying for your guide instead of paying for other useless suggestions by others. It was totally worth it. Thanks a lot.

  • Dave says:

Hey non-rookie go watch someone else’s videos if you want to criticize, I don’t give how long you’ve been in this hobby but you don’t have to go around pissing on other people’s websites that help others. You need to calm down, and pay attention to your tank

  • Kimmy says:

Mark , there is no need for an apology. You put a lot of time and effort into the site, the videos, and you don’t have to do that. You have a family of your own, your own tanks that take up your time as well. I don’t think the naysayers think about that, and I wouldn’t spend one second thinking about it. Honestly I wish I could afford to buy your book, but I live off of disability and every extra penny I have goes into my tank, but I think you have every right to make some money for all your time and effort and the cost and maintenance of the site. Keep ’em coming, and I’ll keep learning. My tank is a mess right now so I’m off to watch some videos :o)

  • Edward Lind-Holm says:

You are my hero dont ever stop the good work !!! 🙂
Im going to do my 80 gallon reef in some months and you only help me doing my setup with your videos !!

    Cheers from Denmark

  • Lisa says:

It did bug me a little when you turned that video into an ad for your book instead of a help. I appreciate your bringing out the chapter for us. 🙂
