AH HA great tip! I have tons of those little hoses laying around, for some reason that never occured to me to use them like that. Keep em comin!

  • Bobby Thom says:

Thanks for the Tip! Hope your feeling not so down anymore 🙂

  • Kovy says:

I completely bypassed the need to handle the drip line, I just added another line on my manifold that reduces to 1/4″ JG, slipped on some tubing and put a valve on the end! This way I never need to mess with tubes slipping. Easy, simple and idiot proof. 😀

great tip, Iv’e got to drip aclimate two zoas and 6 hermits/6 snails and an emerald crab tonight when I get out of work! 🙂

  • Andrew says:

Another method that works well is airline with a cheap valve on it. I have used the Venturi valve that comes with maxi jets in the past with great success! Great tip, thanks for all the wonderful videos you put out there for use.

  • Matt says:

Brilliant Chris! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Like Andrew I’ve been doing the airline, cheap valve and a couple of cloths pegs to hold things in place… However I like this idea so much I’m going to swap it all out as it seems an even better option!

I did briefly consider permanently plumbing a line to my return pump but the sheer cost of stepping down to a 6mm pipe is insane!

Thanks for the tip, what a great idea. Nice moose knuckle btw!

  • Larry says:

best way to prevent the tubing from falling out of your tank is just hold it in place with your mag float

  • Linda says:

Yeah its funny how we have that kind of tubing just lying around the house, doesn’t everyone? :-). Something new we get to try this weekend. Thanks Chris and Mark!

  • Matt says:

    Larry – Nice idea… I like that 😀

  • Gordon Ray says:

    Thanks!

    Gordon

  • Lisa says:

Love it! I currently use a lettuce clip to keep my drip line in the tank; this is neat alternative. Thanks

  • JayHawkScott says:

That really is a great idea. That stupid airline tubing was always a pain. I think I will be boiling some water tonight. Thanks Mark/Chris for a great idea.

  • Mad Hatter's Reef says:

I just use chip clips and air line valves.

  • Jeramy says:

I could not help but notice that the outlet in the background had no cover plate on it =)

  • Jerry M says:

Good idea. I usually just let the door on my hood hold it but have forgotten, and opened it on more than one occasion!

In the summer, especially; with the a/c running, either float the bag in your sump or temp acclimate, again, before releasing into the tank. The temperature, if you just place the container next to the tank, will be a great deal cooler than the 78, or so, degrees most of us keep our tanks at; especially if doing a very slow acclimation on something like nudibranches, cucumbers or other invertebrates. I couldn’t believe how cold the water was the first time I did a drip acclimation with the a/c running full blast

  • Josh says:

Great tip! I used to use the knotted airline but I had a water dropper for a chameleon laying around and it fits perfectly into the end of the airline. It’s got a valve on it already so I can adjust it however I need it!

  • tommy says:

does anyone realize that they sell gangvalves at petco for 2 dollars and can easily attach and unattached to your tank when done with plus your can adjust the flow rate on it with a little nozzle

  • Brandon Harrop says:

yeah i had the tube fall out and actually back siphon the bowl the fish were in onto the floor..luckily i noticed it before it got too low…

  • John says:

That very good. If you do not have RO tubing I use the air line get a old metal coat hanger cut 6 inches put inside one end and bend it into a U shape and put a air valve on the other end.

  • John says:

I forgot on bigger tubing I use old plastic coat hanger cut one end for U shape and wire ties it to the coat hanger or you can do it with air line but do not over tight wire ties.

  • John Masciarelli says:

When are we going to see the finished product of your tank or an up to date of whats going on in there?

  • Jeramy…thanks for the reminder. I need to get that covered. I have a GFCI on it though! 😀

  • s vandersteen says:

is it better for fish to have 48x24x24 a/c better placement for live rock and corals or 60 to 72x18x24 for swimming? If rock placement is in center of 48x24x24 will fish swim in circle instead of back/forth? is my 1st reef tank and want to get one where better view of fish? pls advise thanks
