    Classic, great tip

Great tip Mark, I’ve been using panty hose (leggings) as a filter bag for some fine filter media like Purigen (Seachem) as its sometimes difficult to find filter bags with the ultra fine mesh that is needed for the job without 1/4 of your product falling thru the hose. As for your original idea I’ve also used a breeders net to catch that gunk in the lines as its as fine as panty hose plus has a handle. Love your work especially the live noon question session each Monday.

Hmm… it is about time to clean the plumbing… Maybe I should ask my LFS to start stocking them… got to be cheaper that filter bags 😀

What’s the best way to clean the return and drain lines?

  • Nick…I setup my drain and return lines to disconnect completely for cleaning. If yours won’t come off, a pipe cleaner will work

  • Eric Schulist says:

I have all vinyl tubing and after about a year noticed my flow was slightly diminished and I had just cleaned my pump. I squeezed my piping and thousands of chunks and large brown flakes blew into my display.

It was a brown blizzard. I normally siphon the sandbed so it wasnt a huge issue but this tip could have made sure I got everything and kept my fish from the chaos I caused.

Hey Mr. Saltwater AKA Mr. Mark Callahan . The question I have for you today is whether or not I should use a glass cover for my saltwater reef aquarium or not use a glass cover. I’m wrestling with this decision. I think the light penetrates the water better however I don’t know if it’s the right thing to do or not. I see many Saltwater people without a cover on there reef Aquarium.

Thank you for your time and patience
    Skies

Mark the problem with mine is they are about 20 feet long and run under the house. Any ideas? I’ve tried running string through and pulling a cloth through but that didnt seem to help much.
    Thanks

At 0:53, on Marks shoulder what are those pink fish squabbling over?

  • Bill Steinbuch says:

One additional use for pantyhose: if you’re working in either salt or brackish water loaded with sea nettles, wear ’em! Nettles can’t sting you through pantyhose.
